Dearest brother in Christ, Grace to you and peace. It is my utter most joy and praise to God that I am finally able to say thank you for our former friend and brother in Christ, Dr. Derege Kebede. Dearest Derege, You may not remember me after so many years. I was a former choir member of Womji MKC. Though not talented like you, I used to play guitar. In those dreadful years in your life, I along with few brothers tried our best to rally our church at least to offer you a temporary work at Wonji MKC schools, but without success. Ever since you are in my prayer constantly. I thank God to enabling you to stand up against these wolves who took over our church and defame the name of the most high God. Please E-mail me for I have an amazing and untold story to share with you. Peace, Abera Bachore

These songs beside communicating God’s timely messages, bear a witness that the time is dawning that the map of Ethiopian Evangelical worship changes from its core. Flawed theology manifested and promoted by entertaining but deceiving and dreadful songs are being exposed and attacked by the power of the gospel’s truth which has stepped up on our hopeless situation from beyond…beyond human sphere!
God bless you brother Dereje and continue to use you and others for His glory!

I baught the CD and also read the lyrics but I am not like any of you who commented. We are glad Dereje have another album but what baout the content of the album.To me the quality of the songs have fallen sharply down.He spent almost all of the songs criticizing ministers and preachers. I know and I agree too that I don’t approve most of what the pastors of Ethiopian chrches are doing these days but it has to be realized that we are imperfect people in a perfect church which Dereje is one of those imperfect people.
If there is a song which will encourage them to come back to the Lord rather than running for money and worldly pleasure that would have been good. But only criricizing will not take us anywhere.
I have a question to brother Dereje:
1. Are you currently in any of Ethiopian churches ? If not why? Why do you have to get an album for ethiopians if you are not part of any Ethiopian congregation ? This doesn’t make any sense. Almost all reformers of the early churches stayed with their church and faught the evil in the church until there is a change. But yours doesn’t make any sense to me.You are out there and criticizing a congregation which you are not part of it.
2. Where does the money from the selling of the album goes ? You also criticized about ripping of Ethiopian ministers from those who don’t even have a single meal a day. I agree to some degree with that too. But I want to know that you will be an example to these ministers by sending your money to the needy people.
Thank you

Brother Hailu;
In response to your comments/questions, I would like point out (a) not all but only two (out of 11) songs (i.e., #2, Yamleko Netsanet and #7, Yezare Betekristina) that “critisize” (as you put it) the leaders. I advise you to listen again, and re-read the lyrics of the rest 9 songs. They address other issues, like ‘The Coming of the Lord’ # 3, ‘Death of loved one’ #4, ‘Come back!’ # 5, ‘Search my heart’ #6, ‘God visit Ethiopia’ ..’God is Great!’ #8-11, right?
So you comment above ‘He spent almost all of the songs criticizing ministers and preachers’ is very much exaggerated.
Finally, I don’t think it is required for a believer to worship with his fellow country men. An ethiopian can fellowish with a american, or an asian, or…I think we must look further into the Body of Christ!
Please note also that I am not responding to your comments as a brother in the LOrd, not on behalf of brother Dereje.
Blessings to you!

Dear Amare
Thank you for responding to my comments. But if you read closely I said almost all not all of the songs are for criticizing pastors. On the top of that our gospel doesn’t only criticize but also will tell you the solution at the same time.Jesus himself is rebuking the churches in revelationthe church of sardis ” you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead..” it doesn’t stop there as what brother Dereje did but the Lord said “…Wake up! strengthen what remains..” I will take you to Job 5:17 read up to Vs 18. It says Blessed is the man whom God correbts and goes on to say “…he wounds , but he also binds up,he injures but his hands also heal..” where is Dereje’s healing words for these pastors ? The ministry of the prophet Jeremiah is to uproot and tear down,to distry and overthrow, then see the second part it says to build and to plant.This is what christianity is.
But Brother Amare one last question for you. Do you believe that if a person has to make a change in the church he has to be away and criticize or stay with the church and pay the price and make a difference. I beliieve like our reformers Luther,wesley , John Hus and all the rest who paid a big price by staying with their church and making a difference.
God bless you brother I hope you get what I ment to say.

Brother Hailu;
Thank you also for getting back to me. I hate to respond this way, but as far as I am concerned – I still define “…almost all” to mean at least more than half; i.e., >=6 (out of 11 songs). But that’s alright. And I apologize if I misunderstood you.
In response to your comments. I agree on the fact that our intention as a believer shouldn’t be just ‘criticize’ or ‘destroy’. But I again direct you to closely re-read the lyrics of Dr. Dereje’s CD. If I may, I just want to re-visited some of them very shortly. The very 1st song simply repeats what the Holy Scriptures declare; which is: ‘ALL GLORY TO THE LORD!’ If you see it from another angle, the song kind of WARNS us not to elevate individuals so high above in the sky. Unfortunately, it is not a secret that we do. As for ‘Ya-Amleko Netsanet’ you can read my view that I posted today. Gizew is simply a kind of repetition to passages like Math.24, Luke 21, Mark 13, II Thesol., II Peter, Jude and Revelations, that warn about ‘JUDGEMENT DAY’. As you can see I can go on to each and every song. Finally, If you have read my previous comment, I labled Song # 5 as ‘Come back!’ My reasoning for labeling the song in this manner comes from the contents of the song. Dereje seems to say ‘I have kept my mouth shut for a long time. But no more!’ And our immediate response should be ‘Welcome back! Fellow brother!” We shouldn’t try to push him back.(And we might do that, but I say it is waste of time. The guys seems determined not return and be pushed. Where do I got that? from Song # 5) I think we should open our hand and embrace him. Lastly, I characterize most of the songs as A WAKE UP CALL to us.
To answer to your second question, I get what you meant to say. I also buy what you said about the Reformist (for your information, my knowledge on the bio of these Reformists is very shallow. Actually, it is for the very first time, I heard the name John Hus) But I want also to direct your attention to the unwritten bio of the many that left their home, church and country inorder to evangelize in the jungles of africa, asia, south america, etc. Haven’t they make a difference? Yes they do.
Looking further, who is THE TRUE REFORMEN? I bet you would say: The Lord Jesus! But the opening chapters of Luke tells a story where the people of his home town, Nazareth, simply rejected to accept him as a prophet. In fact, they try to kill him, right? But look how the whole world, and us REFOMED because of His message. The other individual I want to mention here is: The Apostle Paul. Where did he preach basically? Where did he plant church? Is it in the land of Jews? Not at all!
In conclusion, I would like to remind you also that God does His WORK in different ways. Hope to hear from you soon, and stay blessed!

Brother Amare
I guess you totally missed the point what I am trying to say. If you read closely what I said. The early reformers of the church stayed with their church. They didn’t leave their church and criticize the church.But brother Dereje is not with the Ethiopian congregation. Even I read his interview with Matetes megazine that he is not a social person nor he believes in organized religion. What he meant by organized religion is the church. The church is not an organized religion but a community of saints.So I will tell you loud and clear that he can’t talk about the Ethiopian congregation while he is away from this congregation for a long time. He made it clear in the interview that he has no contact with Ethiopian congreagation. By the way Jesus Christ is not a reformer. If you believe in that you are totally wrong. There is no church before the day of pentecost so there is no church where Jesus has to reform. The church of Jesus Christ is established after the day of pentecost.The apostle paul is not a reformer either he lay a foundation for the first century church. That is why we have all those letters of paul in the Bible.When you look at the history of the church the truth of the first century church has been distorted by the catholic church.Because the priests don’t know the Bible , they don’t have revelation of its contents. The blood of Jesus wasn’t enough for them, so they invented the reconciling power of the dead saints like Anne(mother of Mary),Joseph, Mary and countless others.By the 16th century, if any one challenged this system, the person was put to trail amid a torrent of lies and either excommunicated or killed.
In the midist of theses dark times, men such as John Wycliffe, Jon Hus, Martin Luther, John Knox, and John Calvin arose. By the 17th century the reformation was in full swing. All these reformers challenged the Catholic Church. All those people who went in the jungles of Africa is because of these reformers who kept the truth of the scriptures to pass to the new generation. Missionaries came to Africa after the reformation.
You might not be familiar with these names but read “God’s Generals” by Roberts Liardon book 2 .titled ” The roaring reformers”. And you will see what I am talking about.
God bless you brother.

Brother Hailu;
Thanks for getting back to me, and clarifying some issues. As per your suggestion, I will try to get the book (roaring reformers) and widen my view on these individuals. I am also grateful for correcting me referring the Lord Jesus and The Apostle Paul as REFORMERS. I also agree that the church not being an organized religion.
However, the issue I have from your comments is that you seem to be concerned so much about local congrational chuches, than ‘THE CHURCH’, the Body of Christ. Let me ask you this simple question. I am an Ethiopian who live in the US. I fellowship, and actively involve in an Ethiopian church (that is not under the umbrella of any Ethiopian chuch; such as muluwongel, kale hiwot, or meserete-kristos,..etc. And obviously almost all Ethiopian churches abroad are independent).
Can I (or can’t I) talk about Ethiopian churches? If my congregating with my fellow country men grant me access to talk infavor or against Ethiopian churches, why does it deny access to a person who is fellowshiping with other nationalities?
Do you still ‘loudly and clearly’ tell me Dereje can’t talk about the Ethiopian congregation? I doubt it.
You stay blessed too brother.

Brother Amare
I am not talking about muluwengel,meserete kiristos,kalehiwot,mekaneyesus and so forth.By the way non of the Ethiopian churches in the US are of any of the denominations above. I am not talking about that. I am talking about the body of christ the church. But how can I sit down and talk with you and resolve the problems we have unless we are in the same page. I know if I am away from the Ethiopian congregation I don’t mean that I am not a christian but to actively participate and resolve the problems of the church I have to be there.
Who can listen to brother Dereje if he is not there so that they cann talk to him and try to come to a conclusion and help solve the problems. I can talk about the episcopal church who believe in gay marriage, but do you think it makes any difference to them as long as I am not a memeber of thier congregation or I am actively with them. I struggle everyday my self to stay with Ethiopian congregation but I can’t make any difference if I am away from the congregation. I love those christians who follow without knowing all this mess. Who will be the person to resolve the issues if we are out there in another congregation.
That is my point Amare.
Thanks and God bless you.

Brother Samuel
But to tell you the fact Brother Dereje can make no deference as long as he is away from the congregation. He can have another ten more albums. If he left the congregation he better keep the criticisms for himself. But I tell you he can make no difference. I advice you to read the book about the church reformers. Please refer to “God’s Generals, The roaring reformers, by Roberts Liardon book 2″ . As I can see that you have no clue about church history and what the early reformers did. You think change comes just by yelling outside the fence. The eary church reformers stayed with their respective churches to make a difference. The Wesley’s until their death were members of the Catholic church the same to Jon Hus and so forth. If Brother Dereje and you also think that you will get in to a mess when you try to clean up the mess you are not qualified to make any criticism about the Ethiopian congregation. By the way Brother samuel if Jesus was like you none of us will be saved. Because he stayed with the sinners to change their. Don’t you think that we have to be Christ like. One more thing If you talk like you are a saint and the Ethiopian congregation is a mess you are a hypocrite.we are one of them.
You have to speak the truth in love to make a difference. After all Jesus shed his precious blood to the worst Chuch we can think of.
God bless you

I really astonished and also anxious to read all this comments and harsh words. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, if this message (song) is for us, let us repent and return to the Lord’s grace, if not ,let us pray for the body of Christ (Church) to clean her clothes with His blood and ready to receive the Bridegroom (Jesus Christ). I didn’t see any point to make big deal out of this song, I like constrictive and edifying discussions but here I didn’t see that. Let us fear God and control our emotion when write comments and think twice before you start writing. Remember this word on James 3:6 “The tongue is a fire, a world of evil. Placed among the parts of our bodies, the tongue contaminates the whole body and sets on fire the course of life, and is itself set on fire by hell.” ISB 2008
Also remember Christianity is a life of Love, humbleness, meekness, sacrifice and Holiness. If you follow Jesus and be like him! Speak the truth and truth sets free!
I grew up in Ethiopian Church back home and know almost all ministers, Pastors and Singers. We are really blessed with many God fearing Ministers and need to thank God for these Committed and disciplined servant of Christ. They looked ahead their rewards from the Lord as Moses did. Hebrews 11:26 “He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward “NIV 1984
And also we know some “ministers” who are addicted to power, money and fame, I think everybody knows them; we are embarrassed by their deeds on the body of Christ. Even any non believer Ethiopian who lives at home or abroad recognizes what the contemporary Ethiopian Evangelical Church problem is, our name is on the mass media. Most of our Church minister’s quarrel is in the court, just go and goggle it you can get the news about the Ethiopian Pastors and elders politics. Here (USA) in many states these problems happened and the city police interfered and some of the cases are still in courts. In Ethiopia the same things happened in many Churches, just for the sake of power, money or fame. This is fact!!!! Why we deny the problems and pretend. I am not talking about this song or the others; I am taking about the facts that we are facing day to day life in our churches.
You can’t challenge or tell the right way of Christian life for any Pastor, Choir or church member about his or her personal Christian life, if you try to do so they label you as fanatic, holiness preacher or old fashion Christian and corner you. Really I am lamenting to the Lord, Holy Spirit is grieved by many self appointed Pastors, Prophets, solo singers and “Apostles”. Let us pray for these Ministers, I love them and don’t want to miss them in God’s kingdom and some of them start with genuine motive to serve the Lord but failed to see the right way in between.
In my understanding, the real solution is let us go back to the word of God (read and meditate daily) , have daily devotion time personally with our Lord and see his gracious face , ask Holy Sprite to fill us daily and give us strength and revelation for our life destiny and shine the power of resurrection in our life and light the darkness .Let us show Jesus everywhere and share the gospel with our neighbors.
Lamentations 5:21
